River Plate and Cruzeiro face off next Thursday at Monumental Nunez stadium on this match on this match of the quarter finals of the Copa Libertadores of America 2015. A match between two teams with very different roads. River was disappointing all around with only 7 points on 6 games played being the second worst qualified team.

After an excellent 2014 where they won the Clausura tournament, were crowned champions of the Copa Sul-Americana and finished second on the Torneo de Transicion. Similarly to their next opponents, Cruzeiro also had problems getting out of the group stages. Despite not facing strong opposition they still gave up two draws and before starting their winning streak until a loss against Huracan placed them into a position of having to win their last match. They indeed won against Universitario Sucre and were qualified to the top 16 were they faced Sao Paulo.
Agaisnt their brasilian rivals, Cruzeiro was dominated away with an inspired Fabio (the GK) managing to cling on the game only losing 1-0. At home, despite being the better team by far, Cruzeiro only managed to win by on goal. The match had to be decided on a penalty shootout where Cruzeiro was the victor.
